7 Things Seen in Genuine Worship

We find 7 things here in genuine worship, seen with Mary of Bethany, who is one of the Bible’s best pictures of a genuine worshiper.

Mary is often seen at the feet of Jesus, whether in another story with her sister, Martha (Luke 10:38-42), when her brother Lazarus had died (John 11:32), or here in this story at the anointing of the body of Jesus for burial (John 11:2; 12:3).

Mary seemed to be one of the few who believed the words of Jesus Christ, when He said He would be crucified, buried and Resurrect Himself from the dead. After Mary experienced Jesus resurrecting her brother Lazarus from the dead, surely she would have had personal belief that Jesus was able to do miraculous things, even as He said He would.

Mary becomes a beautiful picture of a life of devotion, faith, worship, and prayer. Every born again Christian can learn much from this dear sister who has gone before us.

GENUINE WORSHIP:

  • Has you spending time at the feet of Jesus
  • Gets you to stay sensitive to the words of Jesus
  • Prevents you from asking, “Is this a waste?”
  • Won’t allow you to ask, “How much will it cost me?”
  • Will get you ridiculed
  • Is protected by Jesus
  • Gets you to appreciate the presence of the Lord
