We Are His Workmanship
God is at work right now in your life!
It may not feel like it or look like it.
But God is at work and We Are His Workmanship.
He’s trying to mold you into His purposes.
When I was younger, I was so impatient!
I wanted everything right away.
If it took too long or if it was painful, I stayed away from it.
So when I wanted God to use my life, I thought everything had to happen right away.
Boy was I wrong!
I couldn’t see that my life was the result of his workmanship.
I wanted everything now.
And because of this, I got frustrated and gave up too soon.
I still wrestle with this.
But God kept calling me back to Him.
This is because my life is his workmanship.
I eventually stopped fighting against the hand of God.
He wanted to mold my life but I had to surrender and give up control.
That was tough. Still is.
But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and You our potter; And all we are the work of Your hand.
(Isaiah 64:8)
God is the potter and we are the clay. It’s an interesting picture.
When a potter creates a work of art, there are some main steps they usually go through.
Step 1 – DESIGNING
The potter starts with his design in mind. This is true for what God does in our lives.
Remember, we are his workmanship. God has a certain design for your life that He’s working toward.
Ephesians 2:10 teaches us and says – “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Remember that “God prepared beforehand” what He wants you to become.
You need to let Him work out His design for your life.
Step 2 – SHAPING
To start the work, the potter places the clay in the center of a potter’s wheel. As it spins, the potter molds the clay with his hands. The process is called “throwing.”
It’s pressed down, squeezed and pulled into the desired shape.
When God shapes your life, the throwing process might not feel so good!
But rest assured that we are the workmanship of God. And He’s at work trying to shape something beautiful!
When the shaping is done, then it’s put aside to dry.
Step 3 – FIRING
Next is the firing process which makes it strong, durable, useful and matures the clay. Without firing, the clay is weak and easily breaks.
Now the raw work of art can be turned into a finished masterpiece. In similarity, God’s refiner’s fire purifies us and matures us.
Maybe it feels like He’s turning up the heat and you’re going through the firing process?!
As your potter, He’s making you stronger, useful and is maturing you.
Step 4 – DECORATING
In the final steps, the potter decorates and paints his work of art. Now it’s useful and can be put on display.
In your walk with God, this is where He produces fruit out of your life for others to see.
Question: As God shapes your life, what have you learned through the process?
So remember that God is at work right now in your life! You are His workmanship!
Let God design and shape your life!
God bless you and see you soon!
