Encouragement from God’s Word – 1 Simple Tip to Get Encouraged
Encouragement from God’s Word is here for you! You need to be encouraged every day. Here’s 1 simple tip to get encouraged.
In the Bible, Barnabas was known as an Encourager. His name means “Son of Encouragement.”
Barnabas was “Son of Encouragement”
And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus
(Acts 4:36)
Barnabas is the Bible’s best example of the Gift of Exhortation. Also known as the Gift of Encouragement.
How did Barnabas encourage someone else?
26And when Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, and did not believe that he was a disciple.
27But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. And he declared to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.
(Acts 9:26-27)
See Acts 9:26-27 on Blue Letter Bible
Barnabas went out of his way to help build bridges between people.
Without Barnabas connecting Saul of Tarsus with Peter, it would have been much more difficult for Saul to eventually become Paul the Apostle.
As the main leader of the early church, Peter needed to recognize Saul and his ministry as valid from Jesus Messiah.
Barnabas helped Saul to have fellowship with other Christians
Saul also needed a foundationally important thing that every Christian needs: In-person fellowship with other Christians.
Just like it was with Saul back then, many people today don’t have a place to fellowship with other Christians.
Every person needs a Barnabas in their life
Just like Saul needed Barnabas, every person needs a Barnabas too!
Many are praying for God to encourage them and to strengthen them. You may be used of God to be an answer to their prayers!
So by waiting for someone else to come to you to encourage you, you may get frustrated and may even lose faith and hope. But by asking God that you would be the encourager, God uses this strategy to encourage your own heart every time!
1 Simple Tip: Be a Barnabas
I find that each and every time I am being an encourager to somebody else, this actually ends up massively encouraging me!
As Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)
Here’s what to do: Pray each day for God to touch your heart and show you who you can be a blessing to.
Perhaps call a friend and simply pray for them.
Maybe send a text with an encouraging word from the Scriptures to share and bless their day.
Ask God, “Who can I be a blessing to today?”
And then watch God encourage and bless your heart every time you become a vessel to encourage someone else!
