12 Basic Needs in Ministry – part 2 – Filled with the Holy Spirit
One of the things that was said about Jesus, was that Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:1). In addition, this was before Jesus did any of His earthly ministry.
After the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, many of the New Testament Christians were reported to be filled with the Holy Spirit as well. If others were to observe your life and ministry, would you be found guilty of being filled with the Holy Spirit? Or, would you be known for things of the flesh-filled life like anger, or arguing, or selfish ambitions or sexual immorality?
Christians can obviously learn from Christ’s example, as we follow Him in life and ministry. Christians have a massive and desperate need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Instead, many may want to do ministry, but try to do the work of God while being full of selfishness and pride. This will never work, will always fail, and will never please God.
The Spirit-filled Christian learns to live a daily life of denying self, so that the Holy Spirit fills the person and flows out of their heart and life. The Holy Spirit, like the living water that Jesus spoke of (John 7:37-39), flows out of this Christian in an unmistakable way. This is where God’s grace becomes manifest and evident, in order to touch and minister to lives around the Christian.
If you are a born again Christian, are you filled with the Holy Spirit, or filled with self and worldliness? Are you thirsty for the Holy Spirit in your life? If you thirst, then you must come to Jesus, repenting of self and sin, believing in Him and asking for the spiritual refreshment that only God’s Spirit can deliver.
