As America celebrates her 250th birthday, we are reminded how our founding fathers had faith in a God who was Creator, Supreme Judge of the world and who leaned on God’s protection of divine Providence.

The Founding Fathers declared in the very first sentence of the Declaration of Independence that our rights come from our Creator—not from kings or governments. This conviction is self-evident truth that flows directly from Scripture. Genesis 1:27 reminds us that every human life is made in the image of God, establishing the equal worth and dignity of all people.

When the founders were “appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world,” they were echoing Genesis 18:25, where Abraham said – “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”

Their reliance on “the protection of divine Providence” demonstrated their belief that history is guided by the Sovereignty of God.

Psalm 46:1 beautifully captures their confidence: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” As these brave men faced great risk in signing the Declaration of Independence, they were strengthened by faith that God would defend the cause of freedom, liberty and righteousness.

As we mark America’s 250th anniversary, let’s not only celebrate our national heritage but also renew our dependence on the same Creator who guided our founders. True freedom begins with acknowledging God as the source of eternal truth, justice, and life. May we continue to pray for our nation and trust in His divine providence to lead us forward with courage, unity, and faith.
