Boast in the Cross

Everyone brags. In Galatians 6:14, Paul boasts in the cross. What are the 3 things that happen when we boast in the cross?

Maybe you brag about something great you did? Maybe it was a high score on a game or an award you won? That’s called boasting. But did you know that the Bible talks about a very different kind of boasting?

When Paul talks about boasting in the cross, he means that the most important thing ever isn’t Paul’s own accomplishments. Instead, to boast in the cross is to proclaim the work that Jesus did for us at the cross. Jesus died on the cross to take away our sins and give us a New Life. That’s worth celebrating and boasting about every day!

Why is it so special to boast in the cross? Because boasting in the finished work of Jesus Christ for our salvation is exactly what God wants us to do.

It’s a reminder that we don’t have to perform and do great things. But instead, we can do God’s will, by preaching what Jesus performed in our place, by dying on the cross for the world’s sins.

When we boast in the cross of Christ, it’s like we are saying, “Jesus is my Hero!” Jesus did everything, and Jesus is everything. I am nothing. I am not worthy nor deserving of His grace, love and mercy. I deserved to die on the cross to pay for my own sins, but Jesus, my sinless Savior, took my place when He died on the cross to pay for my sins.

This kind of boasting keeps us humble and remaining thankful. It stops us from thinking we’re better than others. Instead, it encourages us to love and serve people just like Jesus did. It also gives us hope, knowing that Jesus defeated sin and death for good. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is proof of that!

So, the next time you hear someone brag about what they did, let’s remember Paul’s great example. The best thing to boast about isn’t any kind of human award or earthly achievement, but what Jesus did as He died on the cross for the sins of the world. This kind of boasting in the cross, is exactly what God is wanting, and waiting for us to do.
