How to Walk as a Christian – part 2

The works of the flesh mentioned in Galatians 5:19-21 reveal a powerful warning for every believer who wants to walk in the Spirit. These works of the flesh represent sinful behaviors that come out of our fallen human nature. These works contrast sharply with the fruit produced by the Holy Spirit coming out of a believer’s life.

When Paul lists the works of the flesh, he includes adultery, fornication, uncleanness, and lewdness. These are sins that damage our relationship with God and others. He also mentions idolatry and sorcery; these things compel us to turn away from God’s truth and rely on false powers.

Understanding these works of the flesh is crucial because Paul clarifies that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5 doesn’t just give us a list of bad behaviors. This is a wake-up call for each of us to personally examine our own hearts and actions.

The good news is that through the power of the Holy Spirit, Christians are called to put off these works of the flesh and to walk in our New Life in Christ.

God has given us a New Life with a New Beginning, a New Hope, a New Family and a New Way of life.

As we grow in our faith, God’s Spirit will produce fruitfulness out of our hearts and lives. His Spirit’s love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will flow like Living Water out of our hearts, providing proof to the world that Jesus has Risen and is who God’s Word claims Him to be.

This fruit of the Spirit is directly opposed to the works of the flesh. The Spirit’s fruitfulness help us to see God at work through our lives, and helps us to grow forward, avoiding sinful temptations and encouraging us to live lives that are pleasing to God.

If you desire to live a life of victory in Christ and to live with God’s purpose and power, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any works of the flesh that you need to confess and repent away from. Ask the Lord to empower you to overcome these temptations, and instead to focus forward on having His fruitfulness to love one another in God’s power and strength to have victory in Christ.
