Never Give Up on Praying!
The Bible says that John the Baptist’s father, Zacharias, was a priest “of the division of Abijah” (Luke 1:5).
What if God had answered the prayers of Zacharias and Elizabeth many years earlier, in giving them their son, John? Wouldn’t he have grown up to be John the priest instead of John the Baptist? We don’t know how or when John’s parents passed away, but the Bible does tell us that “they were both well advanced in years” (Luke 1:7).
Therefore, because of their ages, it seems likely that Zacharias and Elizabeth had passed away before John was fully grown. Perhaps John grew up somewhat alone and on his own? Maybe these things led to John being “in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel” (Luke 1:80)?
Yes, obviously God had a purpose and a plan in all of this.
He also made them pray and wait years for their prayers to be answered for a son!
From the perspective of Zacharias and Elizabeth, what a wonderful testimony to never give up on praying to God for that which He purposes in your heart!
