Slave or Child

Slave or Child?

Did you know that being a Christian means that you no longer are in spiritual slavery to live under the Old Covenant Law? That’s right!

When you receive Jesus as Messiah and Savior, the Heavenly Father adopts you into His New Family, the Church! In God’s eyes, you are now legally and eternally as an adopted child of God! No more spiritual slavery!

We discover this profound truth in Galatians 4, that through Jesus, believers are no longer in bondage and enslaved by sin but are now adopted and treated as the very children of God. We become His heirs through Christ Jesus.

The adopted child of God now has a New Father and a Heavenly Father: God, and no longer satan!

The adopted child of God has a New Identity: they are now living in Christ and cannot live in sin any longer.

Before accepting Jesus, we all lived under the weight of guilt, shame, and spiritual slavery. Our identity was that of a sinner, and so all that every human could do was to sin. But in Christ we now have a New Identity, a New Family, a New God and a New Hope!

Galatians 4 reminds us that Jesus’ sacrifice broke these chains. The Galatians could not go back to living under the Law – whether through circumcision – nor to do any other thing or work! There is no single thing, nor work, that we can do in order to be found righteous by God. Righteousness is only found through Jesus Christ.

The Galatians were saved by God’s grace, and therefore had to continue living in God’s grace; it was impossible for them, or us, to go backwards by trying to establish a righteousness that is found apart from Jesus Christ.

The born again believer is an heir to God’s kingdom, sharing in the Father’s Divine inheritance. Knowing and living in this truth encourages us to live confidently in this life, knowing we are loved unconditionally by our Heavenly Father. We can now cry out to Him, “Abba, Father!” when we are in pain and needing His comfort, love, joy and peace.

Only the born again Christian has access to the Heavenly Father, and can stand and live a life of hope and purpose.
