Whatever You Feed Grows

God’s principle of sowing and reaping works in everyday life. In Galatians 6:6-8 God reminds us that what you sow you reap. Whatever you feed—whether it’s fleshly or spiritual—will grow in our lives. It’s a powerful truth that’s both a spiritual and practical lesson for each of us.

The Bible teaches us that when we do good and sow things like love, generosity, and faith, it results in spiritual growth. We will reap God’s blessings over time, like spiritual joy, peace and maturity. But, if we feed anger, bitterness, or selfishness, these negative things will grow as well.

Whatever the farmer plants is what they expect to grow in the field. As the farmer waters and cares for the plants, the plants will eventually become fruitful.

If it’s the pastor in a church, he must be faithful to teach “all Scripture” and to “preach the word” as God commands through 2 Timothy 3:16-4:5. If a pastor has been faithful to feed God’s church through “all Scripture,” then congregants are to “share in all good things.” In this way, our sharing is like a mutual partnership in the ministry of sowing God’s Word and good works.

This principle encourages us to be intentional and prayerful about what we invest our time, talents and treasure in. We must be continually feeding our faith through prayer, worship, reading Scripture, fellowship and serving with God’s family. If we allow distractions and the cares of this world to take root in our hearts, the Scriptures won’t bear fruitfulness out of our hearts and lives. Applying this truth means we need to examine what we feed into our hearts and minds. Let’s choose to nurture love, kindness and generosity, and trusting that God will bring growth and fruitfulness in our lives. Remember, the harvest is a result of seeds we may plant—so let’s sow wisely!.
