How To Find God’s Peace When Anxious

As I mentioned before, I used to hate anxiety. I’d freak out in my flesh and go into panic mode when the slightest things went wrong. Yah, I know childish right?

HERE’S HOW TO FIND GOD’S PEACE WHEN YOU’RE ANXIOUS

✅ 1. REJOICE IN THE LORD!

Philippians 4:4 says – “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

Start by rejoicing and “be glad” in the Lord for things like: Who He is, what Jesus has done for you and what Jesus will continue to do. This alone ministers to the anxious heart.

Take your focus off of yourself; focus on Jesus and “Rejoice!”

Learn to “Rejoice in the Lord always” …not only when things go your way and you’ll mature.

✅ 2. BE GENTLE TO OTHERS

Philippians 4:5 says – “Let your gentleness be known to all men.”

When we’re feeling anxious we might snap at others. Especially those we’re close to.

Instead, learn to ask God for grace and empowerment to be gentle with others.

They may also be having a rough day; perhaps even worse than you.

✅ 3. KNOW JESUS IS NEAR

Philippians 4:5 goes on to say – “The Lord is at hand.”

Know that the Lord Jesus is present. He knows what you’re going through and watches how you handle things.

Jesus promises He’s coming back soon for His Church! Christians aren’t spending eternity on earth.

We should be “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13)

This keeps us accountable and gives us hope!

✅ 4. WHEN ANXIOUS, PRAY

Philippians 4:6 says – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;”

Take your anxieties and worries to God. Pray to God and seek Him to supply your needs.

If needed, stop communicating your complaints to others. That might be what God considers the sin of gossip. Gossip and the world’s counsel keeps your heart in bondage to anxiety.

God allows certain anxieties into your life so that you learn to communicate with Him!

✅ 5. WHEN PRAYING, BE THANKFUL

God tells you to pray “with thanksgiving.”

Having an attitude of gratitude helps greatly to calm you.

Tell God, “Thank You for salvation through Jesus, for forgiving my sins, for giving me eternal life with You…” and list on and on being thankful for what He’s given you.

You’ll notice when you’re thankful things are put into a more proper perspective. Selfish prayer requests often get crucified in this stage.

✅ 6. PRAY UNTIL YOU HAVE GOD’S PEACE

Philippians 4:7 goes on to tell you God’s promise – “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Remember, it’s the peace “of God.”

If you need to first make peace with God, through Jesus being the Savior who died for your sins, then confess your sins to God and turn away from them. Now you have access to the “peace of God.”

Know that God’s peace “surpasses all understanding.” The word “surpasses” can mean “above.”

God’s peace is above your understanding. It’s not a logical understanding that you need to have.

He simply gives you His peace when you seek Him through this prescribed method.

Stay in prayer and keep seeking God until He exchanges your anxious heart for a peaceful heart.

✅ 7. ALLOW GOD’S PEACE TO GUARD YOU

God says that His peace “will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Now that you have God’s peace, you must train yourself to know how to remain in His peace.

Allow His peace to “guard” your heart and mind, and know that it’s “through Christ Jesus.”

The word for “guard” can mean “protect by a military guard.” Allow Christ Jesus and His peace to “guard” and “protect” your heart and mind and fight for you.

You must be on the alert against all things which go against the peace of God.
(NOTE AT THIS STAGE: God’s peace is not fleshly comfort – you must remember, this is God’s peace “which surpasses all understanding”)

If you’re a born again Christian and you diligently seek the Lord this way – I’m confident that you’ll find that God will use your anxiety to train you to desire His peace and to keep seeking His peace.

I know God can heal your heart and help you to abide in His peace. I’m proof of this.
